Carnaza Island, Cebu: A Hidden Jewel

cebu philippinesCebu Island has been included on the list of the “World’s Best Islands” by Travel + Leisure Magazine.  There are many popular tourist spots in Cebu – from beautiful, while-sand beaches to the state-of-the-art clubs. But Cebu also has some undiscovered places and one of these is Carnaza Island.

The island can be found at the northern part of Cebu and is part of Daan Bantayan. From Daan Bantayan’s Tapilon port it can be reached by an outrigger boat. The island is open to the public  but a private resort  owned by a well-known family of Cebu is only for friends and family. Carnaza Island is still untouched by commercial resorts and still retains its simple and relaxing surroundings.

Tourists will have to bring their own provisions and tents if they intend to stay longer on the island.  There is a local official that can provide accommodation for a fee.

Aside from lazing around and swimming in its clear waters, one can enjoy snorkelling as marine life around is abundant.  Tourists can go island hopping and visit the other islands, Malapascua and  La Manok Island.
